ABOUT US

IT’S THE MAGIC OF MUSIC!
165 YEARS! That really does sound extraordinary! But this season, the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra will indeed celebrate 165 years of sharing the joy, the love, the magic of making music together. In the pre-Civil War days, the founders of the Philharmonic felt that there should be an orchestra in St. Louis dedicated to good music and the fellowship it brings. (Yes! We were here before the St. Louis Symphony.) The Philharmonic Society of St. Louis was organized on June 21, 1860. In the minutes of the first meeting, the secretary wrote, “the object of this Association is to advance the study and promote the progress of music in St. Louis and to encourage the re-union and social intercourse of the lovers of music in our city.”
TALK ABOUT VISION!
Our orchestra proudly features over 90 talented musicians—a splendid blend of professionals and amateurs who share their common bond of dedication, enthusiasm, energy, camaraderie, and musicianship. Unique within the musical community, we remain an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization. We offer four classical concerts as well as our inspiring Holiday concert and our more relaxed, laid-back annual summer POPS concert.
I invite you to become a subscriber and be present this season as we commemorate our 165th anniversary! Sit in our beautiful auditoriums and marvel in the magic of making music with the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra!
Most musically yours ~
